What is Supervision?
There are two levels of management within Jamf Now: enrollment and supervision.
- Open Enrollment is the lower form of management, primarily used in Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) situations where Jamf Now admins want to enable employees to bring their own tech from home.
- Supervision is the higher form of management and gives you deep and total control over the device.
Why is Supervision Useful?
Devices that are supervised can be controlled on a much deeper level than devices that are only enrolled, and because of this, we recommend that you supervise devices your organization purchases.
How Do I Supervise a Device?
Important: Devices will be wiped when bringing them under supervision.
There are two ways to supervise a device:
- For new hardware, automatic MDM enrollment allows you to supervise devices from the factory. This is massively beneficial to companies that are growing their Apple deployment or want to refresh hardware in the future.
- For existing hardware that you already deploy, use Apple Configurator 2.5 or later to manually import devices into the Apple deployment program and begin supervised management.
