What is Supervision?
There are two tiers of device management in Jamf Now: enrollment and Supervision. Supervision is the higher form of management and gives you deep and total control over the device.
Why is Supervision useful?
Because Supervision is the higher form of management in Jamf Now, devices that are Supervised can be controlled on a much deeper level than devices that are only enrolled.
We recommend that you Supervise devices that your organization purchases. Enrollment is most common for devices that employees pay for on their own and elect to bring to work, also known as Bring Your Own Device (BYOD).
How do I Supervise a device?
There are two ways to Supervise a device:
*Please note: Devices will be wiped to bring them under Supervision.
- For new hardware, Apple's Device Enrollment Program (DEP) allows you to Supervise devices from the factory. This is massively beneficial to companies that are growing their Apple deployment or want to refresh hardware in the future.
- For existing hardware that you already deploy, use Apple Configurator version 2.5 or above to manually import devices into the DEP portal and begin Supervised management.
