Jamf Now gives you the ability to delay operating system updates on iOS and macOS devices for a period of time ranging from 5 to 90 days.
This feature is a critical tool for Jamf Now administrators that want to leave time between general availability of a new iOS/macOS version and deployment to their teams, most commonly to allow for pre-deployment testing.
During the delay the new version of iOS or macOS will not appear as available on end user devices. After the set period of time is past, the new OS version will appear as available and end users can initiate and update.
To delay operating system updates, follow this workflow:
- Open a Blueprint and click on Restrictions, then click the OS Updates section.
- Choose how long to delay updates for devices assigned to this Blueprint, then click Save Changes.
Please note: the length of delay that you choose indicates the number of days delayed after that version of iOS/macOS is generally available from Apple.
- For example, if iOS 12.a is available on January 1 and you have "Delay OS Updates" set to 5 days, that particular version will not appear as an available update on any end user devices assigned to that Blueprint.
- On the sixth day following release, that update will appear as available and all end users are free to initiate an update.
